Tired of the spellchecker not working, I copied the text to Office 2007 (Its a trail that came with the notebook) to check the spelling. Spelling checked I thought I might try closing the original document and then again copying the text from MSOffice to a new Openoffice. It worked. Spellchecker started picking up words it did not know. So to recap: Copied text from open file (call it fileA) using "Select All" fucntion and pasting that text into MSOffice. Closed fileA and opened a new instance of Openoffice (blank document) and pasted the text from MSOffice into Openoffice.
