Unfortunately, I can't run the smoke-test due in part to i#84720#
Nor can I repeat the assertion (having re-enabled it ;-) just starting & exiting
each component one by one [ on Linux ].
If it can be repeated, I'd greatly appreciate a stack trace from the assertion -
the essential meaning is that we are not taking a lock where we should be on
entry, and that some code-path is not thread safe. Any chance of that ?
