When loading a document containing a video, the Vista desktop composition will
be disabled. Once disabled, it stays deactivated until OpenOffice terminates.

Additionally, video playback is not reliable (starting with OOo2.3). Very often
I see the video for a short moment, then the video area turns black. This occurs
in both drawing and presentation mode.

I isolated the problem to the use of the DirectShow Overlay Mixer. Disabling the
Overlay Mixer cured both problems. I have no idea, if some other configurations
(use of VMR-9?)should  be performed, I have absolutely no experience with
DirectShow. But I can say for sure, that simply disabling the Overlay Mixer as
seen in the patch, improves the usability of video in Vista drastically. In fact
it was pretty much useless in OOo2.3.
