After being advised several times "OpenOffice.org update available" when
opening a spreadsheet, I finally clicked on the button.

First, it tried to download the update onto my system partition, which is
stuffed. I followed the instructions to change the directory, but the change
was not picked up until I quit OOo and restarted it.

Second, it then started downloading. It stopped the moment I closed the file.

Third, when the file was reopened it claimed to still be downloading -- for a
while. This morning, however, it made no such claim, but instead was back to
the "OpenOffice.org update available" message.

I suggest you adapt your auto update feature to work with those of us who do
not have your program open 24/7: once started, auto update should continue in
the background, whether OOo is running or not, until completion. This is too
good an idea to leave in so poorly-implemented a condition.
