As this is not related to spreadsheets I changed the component.

I don't see how that would do anything useful. If the write protection is not
supported by the OS the user can open the file, create a copy and save it again
to its old place (or copy it there).

What is needed is support from the OS or DRM. Doing it on the application level
is a pretty ridiculous attempt.
