Then it makes no sense to update the issue 16712, the mentioned by you scenario seems not to be affected any more by the problem. For example, two template files that have names "xyz1" and "xyz2" are placed in the same directory. This directory is in template path, so building a template hierarchy will get the templates from this directory as well.
