I use a navy system background on KDE (Mandrakelinux 10.0).
OpenOffice main bar ("File", "Edit", "View"...) text color is black, which is
difficult to read.
I couldn't manage to change this in Tools : Options : OpenOffice.org :
appearance.
For OpenOffice.org 1.1.0 , the text color is yellow in this case (same computer,
same user, same session).
