Not a bug - the usage of the variable field is wrong. You tried to assign a
string value to a numeric variable type. As I can see from the xml code in the
file, your variable type is declared as "float".
When you create a variable via Insert.Fields.other dialog, you have to set the
correct type in the upper right of the dialog.
