2008 -------
As I remember this bug was introduced with Version 2.0 or 2.1 and still remains.
I'm not sure if I'm the only guy with that annoying problem:

Hardware: different PC's
Linux Versions: 6.06 - 7.10 of Ubuntu/Kubuntu
OpenOfficeWriter: 2.0 - 2.3.1
Language: German, Currency=€ German (Germany)
The result is always the same.

Problem:
A template document contains several input field, mainly text. One field is used
for a document count (numerical), two of the input fields are situated in a
table, contain numerical data (invoice document, fields are used for addition)
formated with currency. The currency appears at the "number format" menue as
well as the dialog box of the "Input field".

Crashes:
1. Opening the template causes the input field to ask for a new value. The field
for the document count is treated like a text field. Entering a value doesn't
cause any reaction. But entering a new value in the first field situated in the
table instantly crashes OpenOffice Writer.
2. If the template was opened without entering a new value, the document opens
without any problem. But changing the value of one of the input field causes the
Writer to hang.

To reproduce:
Open a new text document. Choose "Insert"-"Fields"-"other". At the file card
open "Variables", select "Set variable". At the bottom fill in "Amount" for the
name and "0" for the Value. For Format click on "Additional Formats" and choose
Currency. Right now my format in set to british english.
NOTE: With the drop down field of the "Format" I'm not able to choose the format
german €. I can choose german DM, but thats some years ago. For Austria it's
still Shilling.
Set a Currency to close the dialog and click "Insert" to activate? the variable.
The variable is inserted into the document. Delete this field.
Now at the still opened dialog choose "Input field". The Name "Amount" at
"Selection" should be selected as well as the active "Format". At the bottom
insert "Amount1" in the "Reference" field and click "Insert".
NOTE: If you didn't enter a "Refercene" name you are not able to change the (not
labeled) first field at the dialog box.
The dialog box "Input field" opens. Insert a value of "1500" and click OK. Now
the value with the active currency is the only thing in the document. Click on
the document field and the dialog box "Input field" opens again.
Click at the end of the value and delete it with backspace. The program should
chrash.
NOTE: In the dialog box you should see the currency and the value. When you
entered the field for the first time, you only entered a value, no currency.

BTW.: The recovery of the document crashed my ubuntu 7.1 completely (it was the
6th recovery for this report).

Some of the NOTES above are although true for the
