2008 -------
I use the RPM installation files provided by OOo to install and upgrade my Red
Hat system. The upgrade from 2.3.1 to 2.4.0 proceeds smoothly with no errors,
but I have noted a problem with the package
openoffice.org-freedesktop-menus-2.4-9268 after the upgrade.

This package does not work correctly when run as an upgrade rather than a fresh
install. That is, when run with "rpm -Uvh" the installation has problems, when
run with "rpm -ivh" it does not. I presume this must be a result of one of the
pre or post RPM scriptlets.

The problem is that after an upgrade the /etc/openoffice.org2.4/ directory is
missing. This causes various problems from minor (no menu icons appear in the
menu system) to major problems (links to start openoffice are no in place so it
can be difficult to start OOo).

When I remove the freedesktop package (rpm -e), then re-install that one package
from scratch (rpm -i), the /etc/openoffice.org2.4/ is in place and the menus and
software appear and function as expected.

I am running Redhat Enterprise Linux Workstation version 5.1, which is based
from Fedora Core 6. Kernel version 2.6.18-53.1.13.el5.

I currently have the following OpenOffice RPMS installed:
$ rpm -qa | grep openoffice | sort
