Any other workarounds?  I'm stilling having the problem that corbathegeek 
reported, and I did as cloph suggested (i.e., I have a Brother MFC-6800 
attached to a network print server):

net use lpt2: \\server\printer /persistent:yes

Added a local printer to LPT2: and set it to "print directly" (otherwise jobs 
simply queued up).  (OOo 2.3.1)
