I checked with "2.4.0 Multilingual version German UI WIN XP:
[680m12(Build9286)]" and can confirm the reported effect, if "Open with PDF
reader application" is checked.
Another effect I saw (bug or feature?) that with preferences like shown in
"i88013.png" file name extension ".odt" was changed to ".pdf" in hyperlink, when
document containing link was exported to PDF.

No idea what "PDF/A-1" might mean. Your OS is top secret?
