The repaints are a must since some themes use tranparent bitmaps; so you need
not only to paint the foreground, but also the layers behind. The mapping
between gtkl <-> qt adds another layer of complexity and is quite costly time
wise; therefore we won't use the gtk plugin on KDE anymore (see issue 41806)
