There are some sorts of animation, however, which can only be achieved by stringing together a series of slides (for instance, to demonstrate a psychology experiment where the task is to detect the presence of a face in a picture shown only for 250ms). I use power point for to present these sorts of demos in class all the time, and it supports up to 100ms resolution in automatic advancement to the next slide.
