Well the current behaviour works as designed, first the master page, then the
slide. Changing this would be a feature. I can see your use case but I think
there are other opinions on this.

I keep this open as a reference only and to see if it gets highly voted.
Otherwise the current feature will not be changed. This would also break
interoperability.
