@MAV: I think we have here a huge problem with the MediaWiki feature: "Short
URL".
mediawiki.org and wikipedia.org are using this feature. Too bad! :(
The short URL allows to display pages like:
www.mywikiserver.org/wiki/Article
Instead of:
www.mywikiserver.org/wiki/index.php?title=Article (the default)
Indeed, this feature uses an alias set in the LocalSetings.php and the
httpd.conf. This alias redirects "/wiki" to
<the_path_where_the_wiki_is_physically_installed>. By default, the "physical
install dir" is "w/"
See: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Nice_url for mor explanations.
You can notice that both site (mediawiki.org and wikipedia.org) use this feature
because, when entering "http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/" with correct User and PW
in the settings, the server is found but immediatly changes its URL to
"http://www.mediawiki.org/w/". And this is URL *cannot* be connected directly,
so no posting possible.
I raised prio to P2.
PS: so-penelope and so-wiki don't use this feature :(((
