The extensions worked so far too *without* embedding the arch in the identifier.
So why change this now?

And if you registered a extension only containing 1 arch on a system only
supporting that one arch you can just use the identifier without PLATFORMID.
For example in Debian, the presentation-minimizer or voikko is built for all
archs and this works:

$ /usr/lib/openoffice/program/unopkg list --shared | grep Ide
Identifier: org.puimula.ooovoikko
Identifier: com.sun.reportdesigner
Identifier: org.openoffice.legacy.postgresql-sdbc-0.7.5.zip
Identifier: org.openoffice.legacy.writer2latex.uno.pkg
Identifier: org.openoffice.legacy.openoffice.org-ctl-he.zip
Identifier: org.openoffice.legacy.sun-presentation-minimizer.oxt

(one oxt for one arch). FWIW; this is on a Linux/powerpc machine.

Yes, and? You are talking about multiple platforms in one installation and then
registering let's say x86 and sparc extensions there? I do not believe this is
very common..

So you want to tell me the extension manager might offer a let's say powerpc
extension to i386 users? That's no argument for changing the Identifier but for
fixing the extension manager / the extension website to not return not matching
architectures.
