I have a small example document if you need it. I created the document by copying from a PDF using Adobe Reader and pasting into a Word document using Word 2008 for Mac and then opening the resulting Word document with Writer 3.0.0 beta. Like jwetzel's file, under "View/Nonprinting Characters" mine shows line breaks on most lines except a few short lines.
