Bring up the Preferences panel and select the Online Update pane. Click the "Check Now" button. This crashes the application and (correctly) brings up a OOo document recovery window. Note that if there is, say, a text document window open, there is no crash, although the update check says "checking for an update failed", but that's probably just because 3.0b does not have its update infrastructure set up.
