I open a new spreadsheet, then click on "background color" button and choose "green" (for example) : nothing happens, "Tools: options: appearance: document background" being set to "Automatic" (hence blue, from my K.D.E. colours, I think) or to "white". I'd expect A1 cell (selected by default) colour turn green.
