Select the image while not having selected the caption first (come from the normal text for example). Reduce its size: You'll see that you get space around the image for the caption. Change the flow (right-click context menu -> flow) to continuous flow or sth like that (sorry, haven't got the english expression at hand). Now you see that the caption text starts at the top of the caption frame. Enter as many blank lines as you like, multiple lines are no problem as of OOo 3.0 Beta m2.
