Well, that's exactly what this patch fixes - if you select 'original', the
original bitmap is saved. You'll notice that, when selecting 'original size'
from the context menu of the _unmodified bitmap_, it enlarges slightly. After
doing the same operations you've described then, both bitmaps have exactly the
same size.
Exporting with original size works for cases where the selection is a mixture of
bitmaps & shapes as well.
