I'm aware that the writing of file types into the registry has been disabled for
version 3 beta builds, however even if this is overridden when installing (using
setup.exe WRITE_REGISTRY=1) I am still experiencing problems.

BEHAVIOUR:
When double-clicked for the first time, files saved in native ooo formats (.odt,
.ods) initially opened an 'open with' dialog. Once swriter.exe or scalc.exe had
been selected once, subsequently opened files opened as expected by
double-clicking on them.

Files saved in ms formats (.doc, .xls) failed to retain the correct file
associations, even after swriter.exe or scalc.exe had been manually selected in
'open with' and the 'always use this program...' box had been checked. This may
be acting differently from the ooo formats because I also have other apps that
can open these file types - ms viewers & 602PC suite.

In the case of both ooo and ms formats, right-clicking and selecting 'open with'
failed to include the Open Office applications in the list.

EARLIER VERSIONS:
These same problems also occur in ooo 2.4 and 2.4.1. A similar bug report was
filed for v2.4 at http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=88203 but has
not been actioned.

ORIGIN:
Since I have to roll back to version 2.3.1 for file association to work
correctly, the origin of these problems must stem from in a code change made
between version 2.3.1 and 2.4.
