I would like to see a feature that I have found useful on the text editor that I
use added to OpenOffice: A ‘Projects’ menu to create a project file. A project
file is a list of files that are being worked on together as a project. You
should have the following options on the menu:
New... = Create a new project. You are prompted for a project name (Example)
and then a list is created of all currently open files. The project is created
when you save the project file (Example.OOP)
Open... = Open an existing project. The folder of project files is opened.
When you select one, all of the files listed in it are opened.
Close = Closes the files associated with the active project. If they are not
saved, you will be prompted.
Delete... = Delete a project file. The folder of the project files is
opened. You then select the file to be deleted.
----------
Edit Active = Open the active project as a text file for viewing or editing.
Edit Other... = Open a project as a text file for viewing or editing.
----------
Add One = Add the current file to the active project.
Add All = Add all open files to the active project. The folder opens as for
‘Open...’
Remove = Remove the current file from the active project.
Recent Projects = Display the submenu of recently opened projects.
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice\Projects\Example.OOP = Open the project,
‘Example.OOP’.
Clear Recent Projects List = Clear the list of recently opened projects.
The text editor, of course, only opens text files or files like HTML in text
mode. For OpenOffice this feature should be extended to include all of the
various types of files that it handles, spreadsheets, data bases, documents,
etc. It would have to be on the main UI toolbar to access the various modules.
It may be similar to Project Manager, but it wouldn’t have enough features that
would make a good replacement for MS Project. The major differences are that the
Project menu is not designed for projects where there is collaboration between
more than one person and there is no tracking of progress/time table.
I know I would find it useful in OpenOffice, as I have several projects right
now that I have to open the files for one-by-one and no easy way to manage them
as I do in my text editor.
Regards,
White Phoenix
