I agree that this is a major usability issue. I fixed as follows for Charts in
Calc:
If only one row with values is selected the ranges are taken from rows,
otherwise from columns. I don't changed anything in Writer. Having a single row
in Writer selected created a Chart from rows already. For further changes open
separate issues please.
