Copying and pasting a chunk within a large equation often, but not always,
causes the program to
crash. Recovery is ineffective (reverts to last manual save as far as I can
tell). I don't see a crash
reporter screen come up. The reopened OO doesn't have my usual toolbar at the
top of the page and
will not permit me to edit the equation (I haven't tried editing other
equations or other stuff).
Restarting OO by double-clicking the old file opens OO with normal behavior.

A possibly related symptom: sometimes when I copy and paste several lines
within the formula editor,
the last line is invisible. I see the horizontal scroll bar jump up as though
it were going to do the old
bad behavior, but then it settles back into place. The equation shows the last
line's worth of content,
but I cannot see or edit that content so I have to take it out and repaste.
The crash often occurs after
one or more episodes of this. (I'm not sure always though.)

I'll try to make a file with just a big equation and see if I can get it to
crash and then attach the file for
you to play with.
