------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Jul 20 09:20:41 +0000 2008 ------- I searched and could not find this bug reported. When I installed OOo 3.0 Beta 2, I checked those three boxes during installation that told it to make itself the default program for MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, but after installation there were no file associations to OOo for .doc or .xls or .ppt files, and when I used Vista's "Open With..." option and "Select the program from a list" OOo was not even in the list, and I had to browse for the .exe file myself. I find this to be a severe defect and a major annoyance, and although I appreciate the efforts of everyone who's made this program possible, I think this issue does make the programmers seem inept. Also, I was looking for something in Tools > Options... to make OOo the default program and could not find it; I think this feature should either be added or perhaps be made easier to find. More background info: I run Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. This is a completely clean install since the computer is new; I did not have any previous versions of OOo on the machine ever. I double checked the issue by uninstalling OOo and then reinstalling it, checking those same three boxes... same result. This bug should be reproducible on any machine with the same OS. The first time I installed OOo I had a trial version of MS Office installed that came with the computer; by the second time, I had uninstalled MS Office, so that factor does not seem to have any effect on the bug. Also, I did not restart the computer to see if that had any effect; I was not told to restart and did not want to go through the trouble; the program itself runs fine without a restart, so it would be very irregular for a restart to be required for file associations to take effect.
