I can't confirm your test. These are my results:
OS Version Screen Result
SUSE10.3 2.4.1.5 1280x1024 OK
SUSE11.0 2.4.1.6 1400x1050 Not OK
SUSE11.0 2.4.1.6 1680x1050 Not OK
-> it works only for screens in 4:3 format!
