2008 -------
I've recently upgraded to 2.4.1 using the pre-compiled linux binary, on Fedora 5
running on an x86_64 machine. While I can get past the splash screen, and even
begin work in Impress, it does not take long before Openoffice hangs with the
issue described in this bug. In particular, strace loops with:

...
open("__db.", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0664) = -1 EEXIST (File exists)
open("__db.", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0664) = -1 EEXIST (File exists)
open("__db.", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0664) = -1 EEXIST (File exists)
stat64(0x8271b88, 0xffb13b3c) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
stat64(0xef8007b8, 0xffb13a4c) = 0
...

Killing Openoffice is the only option. Deleting '__db.' is required to get past
the splash screen when restarting. I've noticed files of the name '__db.' in my
home directory and the directory of open files.

What are these files to store, why are they needed, and how can I prevent them
from crashing openoffice? Might there be a simple workaround?

Thanks. ~Jacob
