I have installed OpenOffice 1.9.87 downloaded from OpenOffice.org on Suse 9.3 RC3(Gold build). It works fine with all the powerpoint presentations that I have here locally. I will attach even one of the documents that I have used. Just try with that, if even that crashes, then may be try to reinstall OpenOffice and try.
