On my system it appears to specifically be an issue with saving files off to my server. Reading and writing files off the local disk works fine. When I attempt to save files to my server, (whether brand new, or edits of pre-existing files), I got an error. My server uses CIFS and has the permissions set to 0700. The specific error I receive is: Error saving the document Untitled1: Error creating object. Could not create backup copy. Two things I'll note here: (1) The error message doesn't actually have the filename that I specified when saving. (2) OOo creates a zero-byte file in the specified save directory, with the correct name. I'd guess the permissions checking/setting logic has an issue, but I haven't looked at the code.
