This should be for issue 77346, however there doesn't appear to be any way to
re-open a bug...?

With all math formulas I find that all the non-textual symbols are being
replaced by some odd looking box with what might be a sheaf of wheat in the
centre. This appeared to be a font problem, so I changed my math font from
"Times New Roman" to "Times" using the font substitution table, and now I get
floppy disk glyphs instead! I get this on OOO3.0Beta, as well as OOODEV300m9 for
osx.

If unicode renders here, this is what the "sheaf of wheat" symbol looks like
--> 

This problem is entirely reproducible. Simply create a formula in *any*
component, then type "a=b". I get ab. Changing fonts simply changes it to
a(FLOPPY DISK)b

Do any google search to find a powerpoint file with an equation and use their
"view as HTML" -- they appear to be suffering the same problem.

First hit from "filetype:ppt equation"

See slide 25, where the symbol "proportional to" has been replaced by this funny
symbol.

Also quite a problem here:
