Hello,

I am writing an engineering technical report using OOo 2.4.1 as a trial to see
how it performs for this task. I am a regular user of LaTeX and have also used
MS Office for similar purposes.

I have noticed that to cross reference a heading, I first have to select that
heading and then Insert Crossreference->Set Reference and give the newly set
reference a name. This itself appears to be not quite intuitive. IMHO, how does
a user know to use Insert a Cross reference menu item to just set a reference?
Perhaps there should be a Insert->Set Reference Mark item? In any case, this can
 and should be improved.

Next, the interface to actually insert a cross reference to a heading is
also weird. To do so, I position my cursor in the text where I want the
cross reference, do Insert -> Cross Reference (this appears sensible)
and then select "Insert Reference"(which is also sensible). However,
exactly what value to insert is not clear. I want the heading number.
But there is no choice to do so. Only selecting "Chapter" works. That doesn't
make any sense; I do not have any chapters in my report at all!

On a related note, just as Tables and Figures are automatically listed in Insert
-> Cross reference dialog, why are headings also not listed? If a user is using
numbered heading, it is quite likely that the author will also cross reference
them at some places. So if a user is numbering the headings, those headings
should automatically be listed in the Insert -> Cross Reference dialog box.

If I am missing something and the above procedure is more intuitive than
I have experience, please feel free to correct me.

Just a little feedback with the aim of helping improve OOo to a high
grade document processing application.

Regards.
->HS
