You can't be serious.
If the underlying database you have chosen cannot let you correct errors in the
table structure during the design phase then either:
* You have chosen the wrong database
* you need a work-around in your application code
(e.g. drop and re-create table, or create scratch
table and copy over the data before dropping and renaming)
It's not reasonable to suppose that people won't change thier minds about table
structure while creating the schema, not reasonable to suppose that people have
designed the whole thing with pencil and paper before typing in the names.
You are attempting to create an access-beating product, and at the very first
part of the user's experience they are faced with the sort of awkward, clumsy,
impediment to thier way of thinking that might have been acceptable in the
1980s, but in 2005 will have folk saying 'oh it doesn't work' and dumping it
straight away.
I have re-opened this issue. The purpose of a beta is to find out what outside
users think of the product, and I think that both this impediment and the
dismissal of it needs another more careful dose of thinking about.
Look, I'm not having a go. I like the suite enormously. But this is not the
way to make people go 'Wow - that will do everything I need'.
