I've done some further experimentation.
The check boxes under Tools / Options / Load-Save / Microsoft Office appear to
have no effect.
When I create the MS Equation 3.0 equivalent of "prod from i=1 to n {i sup 3}",
the equation looks as it should. (The equation created with OOo Math also looks
fine while I'm editing it, but not after I close and return to the MS Word
environment.
