When opening more than 20 open office documents (Including a Calc spreadsheet, Database and several Writer Documents) I found that Open Office would crash. But only when using Open Office in conjunction with desktop virtualization software. I was able to duplicate the effects across versions of Open Office and two different virtualization programs, suggesting that the problem may be due to some interaction between Open Office and the Windows API. Desktop Virtualization Software: Dexpot (http://www.dexpot.de/index.php?lang=en) VirtuaWin (http://virtuawin.sourceforge.net/) Open Office Versions: OOo 2.4.1 OOo 3.0.0 rc1_20080904 No warnings or error messages were produced. And when OOo was relaunched and recovered general errors were observed: 2.4.1: Unable to right-click and unable to launch task manager. Audible Windows error sounds when launching Task Manager and when OOo crashes. 3.0.0 rc1_20080904: "Unable to find path" when attempting to launch files associated with OOo after the crash.
