This is OO 2.4.0 in openSUSE 11.0 x86_64.
I posted a question in the forum
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=10122

Documents created on earlier versions of writer would loose images on successive
edits and saves. Jpegs would generally stay but eps's and bullets from external
images (all embedded) were most susceptible. The image would be in the Pictures
directory of the unzipped odt. I first noticed it some time ago when I updated
(not sure if 2.3 or 2.4) on SUSE 9.3 so uninstalled and reverted to 2.1 which
seemed ok.

I will need to see if I can get the eps case to occur reliably and upload a
file. I have 2 files with and without bullet images showing.
HCSWWebView.odt is the original file
HCSWWebView1.odt is the file saved under 2.4.0. The thumbnail in theis file
shows what the document looks like when the eps's also disappear.
