OOo2.x uses OS file locking, that seems to work OK with the GMX software. The problem of the system file locking is that it does not behave itself consistently in heterogeneous network file systems, that is actually a very common case currently. So to get rid of the mentioned problem the OOo3.0 uses own lock file to do the file locking. Unfortunately the syntax of the lock file name is not supported by the GMX software, although it is pretty correct file name, that is accepted on all the supported OS ( as I have mentioned in the previous comment ).
