Some more inputs.

I am a Test Lead and I use Power point regularly in my daily work. The
summary, “Improve Impress Text selection and Editing” caught me when I was
scrolling through the bugs list for Impress. The problem was easily
reproducible following the steps captured by “arotenbe”. I find some basic
differences between OpenOffice and Powerpoint when handing “Move Objects”
and “Resize objects” functionalities, which I have listed down. I see two
issues here one of which is listed down and the other one is filed as a new
issue.
The issue detailed here is not limited to shapes, it was also observed on
objects such as pictures.

Please execute the Actions mentioned, on both power point and Impress to
understand my explanation better.

My observations are made on OpenOffice (Impress) OOO300m5 (Build : 9350) on
windows XP Professional OS.

Issue 1: (“Move Objects” cursor does not appear for small objects)

Action 1:
Move the mouse pointer on an object (Rectangle, Square, picture from a file
etc)
Power Point Response:
The pointer changes to “Move Object” cursor
OpenOffice Response:
        The pointer does not change.
Inference:
In case of Power point, the first control provided to the user with regard to
an object is “Move Object”. In case of OpenOffice, there is no control provided
to the user when the mouse pointer is moved on the object.

Action 2:
        Click on the object.
Power Point Response:
The pointer changes to “Move Object” cursor and “Resize-object”
controls appear.
Open Office Response:
The pointer changes to “Move Object” cursor and “Resize-object”
controls appear.
Inference:
In case of Power point, the “Resize-object” control appears only on object
selection. In case of Openoffice, both “Resize-object” and “Move Object”
controls appears only on object selection.

Conclusion:
I think the “Move Object” control should have precedence over “Resize-object”
control. The problem “Move object not visible when the object is very small”
can be solved by displaying the “Move Object” cursor when the mouse is moved
over the object.

The other issue is with one of the sides of the rectangle / square made zero
which is tracked as Issue #94646(Rectangle/Square shapes with a side of zero
length)
