2008 -------
I have found that somehow Universal Access had been turned on. Voice Over
started up out of the blue. Once I turned that off, and turned off all Universal
Access the black box thing went away.
I reinstalled OO and it did not come back, so it is not connected to OO. (I know
you knew that!!!)
On further investigation I think it is probably the result of the cat walking
across the keyboard! Go Figure!!!
