I do not set a single terminal to a special locale, the whole system is set to locale de_DE. All messages are in German, etc. The OpenOffice.org version was installed from the German OpenOffice.org website. Ok, to make sure I went to KDE settings, set language and properties explicitely to "Deutsch" and "Deutschland" (although this is not necessary as seen with the other applications) and rebooted.
