I checked with "Ooo 3.0.0 RC3 Multilingual version German UI WIN XP: [OOO300m8
(Build9357)]" and can confirm NOT the reported effect

You know that your text is written in "English (Australia)" and that you need
the correspondent spell check dictionaries? Because of my successful test I
close this issue, but please feel free to reopen it if you can contribute more
concrete information showing that there really exists a problem with spellcheck.
