This is an enhancement. This option helps more users who are experts and thus I
think it does not make sense to provide an option like this in a so prominent
way.
What I think would help users, is to have some kind of "File Open" entry in the
start menu which launches the OO.o app window with a "Start pane" opened. From
there users can open existing documents, templates. etc.
