If you need a spreadsheet for everyday use, then OpenOffice is fine. If you need a spreadsheet that is 100% compatible with Excel then Excel is the one for you. 3) OpenOffice makes a very good effort at importing Excel spreadsheets, but its is definitely not "compatible" at the higher levels, and as I say above, it is better not to import complex excel spreadsheets and then write them back in excel format. You will often lose something in the translation.
