Currently there are no plans to remove this function. Looking at the
code I see that unlike stated in the help Mac OS is not supported.
In general a replacement should be based on UNO API, not Basic
specific I think.
Concerning pathes: Instead of native path notation also File URLs
can be used in OOo Basic. Of course this only helps if the target
files are named equally.
I will use this issue to add Mac support to GetGuiType
