I'm trying to open the latest version of a document and I can only see the first
page (not always) before OOo freezes (100%CPU). The only way to quit is to kill
the application.

That document contains images, multiple indexes, tables, illustrations and
captions, footnotes, a bibliography, weblinks and is written in french (using
the french dictionary). It has three levels of "Outline numbering" and no
Macros.
The version before that can be opened. Changes between them are adding a
chapter, moving chapters around (noticed that the Index part of the navigation
panel had a problem there. New chapters were not added at the right place.).

I can't find a log describing what happens.
If I restart OOo, it sometimes tries to recover the document, but after it has
done so, the applet freezes and I have to kill it.

It happens on both Windows and Linux. I cannot provide a version of the
document.
