To verify the fix:
0) download the attached brp-symlink script and make it executable
1) add "%__os_install_post /path/to/brp-symlink" to your ~/.rpmmacros file
2) without one of the proposed fixes, it should fail with
+ /path/to/brp-symlink
ERROR: link target doesn't exist (neither in build root nor in installed
system):
/usr/share/applications/openoffice.org-1.9-writer.desktop ->
/etc/openoffice.org-1.9/share/xdg/writer.desktop
Add the package providing the target to neededforbuild and Requires
[same error for the other desktop-Links]
Error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.3746 (%install)
3) with "export NO_BRP_STALE_LINK_ERROR=yes" you still see the "error"-messages
but the build will continue/the rpm will be written.
(with __os_install_post %{nil} nothing is run, and therefore there will be no
output of the script}
