This is a rant and a suggestion. At work we use Microsoft Word. The program
likes to "suggest" things by doing them. Start typing a numbered list and it
attempts to autoformat it for you. Which makes the program unusable. I just
end up using Wordpad instead as I know I won't be able to win the fight with
autoformatting.

OpenOffice has the exact same issue. When I start typing in Writer, at some
point it's going to start autoformatting. Then it's going to mess up the
formatting so bad I won't be able to recover it. It just happened. I typed a
1) and a paragraph after it. It started autoformatting it. It indented it.
Now I can't continue as there is no way to undo that. It makes the program
unusable. My next steps? Three:
1) yum remove openoffice.org-writer
2) yum install abiword
3) paste text from openoffice.org writer into gedit to fix format, paste into
Abiword.
3) file this bug.

Seriously. If you can't provide one big option in the Tools/Options area, one
which affects all of OpenOffice, the point of the option being "don't you ever
start formatting my documents," then it's game over. I won't use your program
as it's unusable. I'm not alone. Will Abiword reach that point? Probably.
Then I'll use Gedit.

Do not autoformat. It's the most despised "option" in MS Word and you've just
copied it. Making your programs unusable.
