You are partly right. But in 15 years of developing StarOffice and later
OpenOffice we have experienced, that most users really prefer having "compatible
glitches" rather than different (even when better) behavior. Most OOo users
worked with MS Word before and are used to certain behavior. That's a truth in
UX - even if you do not believe at first...
