BTW: it seems that the original issue is not reproducible in OOo 3.0. The test document displays the correct creation date (August 13th 2007). It seems that all of us who commented here have overlooked that the *create date* is fixed and an update (that as I wrote can't be suppressed easily) shouldn't change the field content. This is different for other date fields where Writer and Word possibly differ if the latter does not automatically update fields content and Writer does. @medentmatt: please check in 3.0.
